I think the scene where Thelma and Louise found out that they were robbed by "Brad Pitt" at the hotel was significant. Here, Thelma and Louise switched role. Louise is usually the head-strong, determined, and courageous one while Thelma is the weak and dependent one. At this scene, the two switched role. Thelma stepped up and became the leader for the moment in time and helped Louise get herself back together.
I feel like this movie defines "road trip" as companionship. This companionship helps Thelma and Louise grow stronger together while finding out more and more about each other as they are escaping to Mexico.
Why did they call Daryl knowing that there might be a chance that the police were there?
I agree with Dinh that the point in the movie where Brad Pitt robs them at their hotel room is very significant.
ReplyDeleteBefore they walked into the room, both of the women were happy at the diner but the very second they walked into the hotel room their attitudes changed. This was the first time that Thelma became the more prominent character and Louise was the one who was stressing out more than Thelma. It seems that without each other for support both of these women would not be able to travel. They are both each others "backbones" and at different points in the movie one woman is more headstrong than the other. They both rely heavily on one another for reasons such as money, decisions and calmness. I feel they both contribute to the journey they are taking and are very dependent on one another especially at this point in the movie.
Do you think that Thelma should have decided not to go to Mexico with louise or do you think Louise would have bee completely unsuccessful without her?
